Over six decades of production experience, we have built expertise across a wide range of fibers – from the most common synthetics to highly specialised technical materials. The following copy describes each material category as it will appear on the website.

Synthetic

The workhorses of modern technical textiles.

Synthetic fibers are man-made materials produced through chemical processes, offering a wide range of properties that can be precisely controlled and tailored to specific end uses. Their consistency, strength, and versatility have made them the backbone of technical textile production - and the materials Fitexar works with most extensively across its product range.

 

Polyamide (Nylon) is prized for its exceptional abrasion resistance, elasticity, and durability, making it the go-to choice for sportswear, hosiery, medical compression, and protective garments. Polyester offers outstanding dimensional stability, low moisture absorption, and excellent resistance to repeated washing – ideal for workwear and technical fabrics. Elastane (also known as Spandex or Lycra) is the elastic core yarn behind compression and stretch garments; at Fitexar it is almost always processed through our covering technologies rather than used bare. Polypropylene rounds out our synthetic range, valued for its lightness, chemical resistance, and thermal properties in specialist applications.

Natural

Time-tested fibres with enduring appeal.

Natural fibres - derived from plant or animal sources - bring properties that synthetic materials have long sought to replicate: breathability, softness, and a natural relationship with the skin that wearers instinctively recognise. At Fitexar, we work with natural fibres both as standalone materials and in blends, always applying our production expertise to get the best possible result from each fibre's inherent character.

 

Cotton is the most widely used natural fibre in our production, valued for its comfort, absorbency, and compatibility with a broad range of dyeing and finishing processes. It is frequently combined with synthetic fibres to produce blended yarns that offer improved durability and performance. Wool brings natural insulation, moisture-wicking properties, and a luxurious handle suited to premium apparel and protective garments. For clients working with more specialised natural materials – including linen, silk, and cashmere – Fitexar can apply its covering and assembly expertise to make these fibres processable on standard machinery without compromising their quality.

Artificial / Regenerated

Natural origins, engineered performance

Artificial fibres - also called regenerated or semi-synthetic fibres - occupy a unique position between natural and synthetic materials. They are derived from natural raw materials, primarily cellulose from wood pulp or cotton linters, that are chemically processed and reconstituted into filament form. The result is a fibre that combines the softness and breathability of natural materials with the processability and consistency of manufactured yarns.

 

Viscose (Rayon) is the most established regenerated fibre, offering a silky handle, excellent drape, and vibrant colour uptake – making it a staple in fashion and apparel applications. Modal and Tencel (Lyocell) are newer-generation cellulosic fibres produced through more environmentally responsible closed-loop processes, delivering enhanced softness and moisture management. At Fitexar, these materials are increasingly incorporated into our product range in response to growing demand for sustainable textile solutions – without any compromise on the performance or quality standards our clients expect. Acetate, another cellulosic fibre, is used in specialist applications where its distinctive lustre and drape are valued.

Technical / High-Performance

Where materials reach their limits - and exceed them

Technical and high-performance materials are defined by the exceptional functional properties they bring to a finished textile: extreme heat resistance, electrical conductivity, ballistic protection, or cut resistance far beyond what standard fibres can deliver. These materials are at the core of Fitexar's most demanding and specialised work - and they require a level of processing expertise that very few manufacturers can offer.

 

Aramids – including Kevlar and Nomex – are para- and meta-aramid fibres offering outstanding resistance to cutting, tearing, and flame, widely used in protective clothing, fire services, and aerospace applications. Carbon fibre and copper yarn enable electrical conductivity and sensing functions in smart textile applications. Glass fibre provides high tensile strength and thermal resistance for industrial and aeronautical uses. UHMPE (ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene) delivers exceptional cut and abrasion resistance at minimal weight, critical in ballistic protection and law enforcement garments. Optical fibre, incorporated through our covering processes, enables light transmission through the fabric itself. Many of these materials present significant processing challenges – abrasiveness, brittleness, or inability to take dye – that Fitexar addresses through its covering and assembly expertise, often wrapping a technical core in a dyeable outer material such as polyamide.
